BBC inquiry letter to Garner

One can interpret the Woman in the play as a kind of muse, or ghost, or both? This original solicitation from the BBC adds context.

Dear Mr. Garner,

I produce a series called “Leap in the Dark” — a television series that examines the paranormal. The programmes that we show are dramatisations of events that we have researched; though it is impossible to be scientifically exact, we try to avoid obvious fictions, so that the programmes are about what people have experienced, even if it’s inexplicable.

I am writing to you because I wondered if you had experienced some event that you would consider writing about – it could be anything that is usually considered paranormal; haunting, telepathy, poltergeists etc. Alternatively, there may be an event that you know about that would interest you, or that you would like us to share with you some of our research into various incidents.

The result on the screen has to be a 30 minute play of some sort. Because of the subject the writing can be very free in form and technique, making it entertaining for a writer to work at.

yours sincerely

Michael Croucher
